Gil (Voiced by Dan Castellaneta) is a perpetual loser, a nervous, middle-aged man with the inability to hold a steady job, due to strings of misfortunes that tend to hit him at the worst times. He has been seen holdin number of small menial jobs, including used car salesman, doorbell salesman, real estate salesman, Coleco computer salesman, and newspaper subscription salesman. Since the departure of Lionel Hutz from the series, Gil has been used as a cheap replacement lawyer in court scenes.
The character is based on Jack Lemmon's portrayal of salesman Shelley "The Machine" Levene in the 1992 movie adaptation of David Mamet's Pulitzer prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross.
